Description:When British men were called-up to fight for their country during the First World War, women were required to fill their roles at home. In the English Electric Manufacturing Co was incorporated as a public company, for purpose of manufacturing, at its own new works at Preston, every variety of electrical machinery, particularly for use by railways and tramways. But then, in the game that would make them stars of Pathe and beyond, they were required to play outside Lancashire. On Christmas Day , 10, spectators came to Deepdale, the home of Preston North End, to witness the start of the most phenomenal success story in the history of women's sport. Playing largely against men, they lost only three matches out of nine.
